[Jun 2024] Managing change
Takeaways: 1. Trust your instincts & face change with courage 2. Our belief in a higher power connects all humanity 3. When lost, try finding your North Star or purpose & keep moving towards it.
Hey Champ!
It’s summer, and you must be gearing up for your vacation, so I thought I’d talk about ‘change’ and how it affects us. Just like the weather, our lives go through multiple seasons: sometimes hot and frustrating, other times pleasant as spring.
We have no control over the forces of nature, no matter how powerful we think we are. Princes and paupers alike must face the vagaries of our environment or fate. That’s why life, like nature, is the greatest leveller! It can humble the most arrogant and bring joy to the most unfortunate.
Handling Change
Trust Your Instincts
Handling normal, predictable changes is easy. But extreme events can take a toll if we’re not prepared. Our smartness lies in being attuned to our environment and staying alert to changes around us. We’re born with survival instincts, much like ants and honey-bees that collect and store food for harsher times.
In life, when there’s a change, trust your instincts. They will guide you more often than not. If you still get a few scratches or face hardships due to change, consider those life’s lessons. Dust yourself off, stand back on your feet, and look ahead. No matter what happens, don’t look back or feel sorry for yourself. Life always lies ahead of you.
Trust a Higher Power
Believe in yourself, because at the end of the day, it’s you vs. the world. However, we all derive strength from a higher power that can’t be easily explained, defined, or visualised. Some call it God, others call it Karma or destiny.
Whatever form of higher power you believe in, remember that our entire universe is connected to it, and thus, we are all interconnected. If we are connected, we can never truly be alone or powerless. Believe that if we do the right thing, learn from our mistakes, and pursue a larger purpose, we are making the world a better place. In return, the world will look out for you. The universe will reward you with opportunities to grow, get stronger, and spread your wings.
Know Your ‘North Star’
Do you know about the ‘North Star’? In the past, ships navigated the seas by looking at the North Star, which doesn’t seem to move while other stars change their positions around it. This is because the North Star is aligned with the axis around which Earth rotates. By looking at it, sailors could determine the North direction and navigate accordingly.
In life, when we face challenges and lose our sense of direction, knowing our ‘North Star’—our raison d’être (reason to exist)—helps. It’s not easy to decide our purpose in life, but once you find it, hold onto it. Whenever you feel lost, think about your ‘North Star’ and make decisions accordingly. Having a ‘North Star’ ensures you will always find your way, no matter the changes or challenges you face.
That’s all for now! Hope you’re spreading joy, cheer, and happiness wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Good luck finding your North Star and never losing it!
Love you infinity times infinity!
