[Nov 2024] Embrace light & darkness both
Takeaways: While everyone celebrates and shares light and joyful moments, it is important to understand darkness and respect its value as well. Darkness helps you focus, be patient & get stronger!
Hey Champ!
Wish you a very Happy Diwali! I hope you liked the gift that I sent.
Today, we celebrate the festival of lights, filling our homes with lamps and sparklers, and everywhere we look, there’s brightness. We love the light because it shows us where we’re going and makes everything feel safe and happy.
But you know, light and darkness need each other. Imagine if there was no darkness—then we wouldn’t even notice the lights! Both light and darkness help us learn different things in life. So today, I want to share a few thoughts on how light and darkness work together to make us stronger and wiser.
1. “Light Helps Us See, But Darkness Helps Us Focus.”
When there’s light, we can see everything around us. But in the dark, it’s harder to see the outside world, so we turn our focus inward. This can help us discover what we really think and feel.
Here’s a verse from the Bhagavad Gita that I think you’ll like:
“तं विद्याद् दुःखसंयोगवियोगं योगसञ्ज्ञितम्।
स निश्चयेन योक्तव्यो योगोऽनिर्विण्णचेतसा॥”
(Gita 6.23)
It means that true strength is found in freeing yourself from worry and sadness, and this is achieved through steady determination and a calm mind. When times feel “dark,” try to go within and find your light. You’ll be surprised at the strength that’s already inside you!
2. “Darkness Teaches Us Strength.”
Sometimes, life puts us in situations where we don’t know what to do next, and these moments are like darkness. But darkness teaches us to become strong by figuring things out on our own. It’s like building mental muscles.
When you face challenges or uncertainty, remember that these moments are helping you become stronger, even when things don’t feel easy. It’s a way to practice using your own light.
3. “Use Darkness to Become Calm and Focused.”
Have you ever noticed how calm and quiet it gets at night? That’s darkness showing us how to find peace. The world slows down, and it becomes easier to calm our thoughts.
The Bhagavad Gita also says that a wise person, like a lamp sheltered from the wind, doesn’t flicker in the face of challenges. Just like that, we can pull our focus inward during dark times and find calmness. It’s like taking a deep breath when you’re nervous; you feel more in control and ready to face anything.
4. “Darkness Can Be a Teacher.”
Darkness can show us things that light sometimes hides. Like a teacher, it asks us to be brave, patient, and strong. Sometimes, it even shows us what we’re afraid of so we can learn to face it.
In Hindu philosophy, it’s often said that knowledge and wisdom grow in the dark. Just like seeds grow under the soil before they sprout into the light, our wisdom grows inside us, especially when we face challenges.
Diwali is definitely a time to celebrate the victory of good over evil and to light up our surroundings and share our happiness and joy with others. However, it is important to not let darkness scare us. Both light and darkness are teachers that help us become stronger, braver, and wiser. Whenever you face a “dark” time, think of it as a way to grow, just like a seed growing under the soil before it bursts into the light.
Happy Diwali, Champ!
Love you infinity times infinity!
